About the event
“Inside the Box, from Her Perspective” brings to life the memories of three women who were present at the Fords Theater on the evening of April 14, 1865 - the night President Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth.
Laura Keene, the leading actress in that evening’s production of “Our American Cousin”, and the first female to own and manage a theatre in the U.S., sets the scene. Mary Todd Lincoln, the nation’s First Lady, then shares her perspective of the events that evening, and of life leading up to, and in the aftermath of her husband’s murder. Clara Harris and her fiancee, Major Henry Rathbone were the Lincolns guests at the theatre that night. Clara shares her perspective with us as the innocent witness to one of our country’s most horrific tragedies.
